100% internet penetration in Urban Areas by 2020!
A report by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IMAI) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) says that by 2018 there will be 340 million internet users in Urban India and 210 million internet users in Rural India. The census
2011 says that the urban population was 370 million, if we were to take the census numbers and the IMAI-BCG report together we can say almost 100% of Urban India will be accessing internet by 2020! This has huge implications for the education sector, even now there are educators and parents who believe that internet is a distraction and that learners should not have access to it. Even today it is a common refrain that educators do not have access to internet
have Ultimate have.
or parents and learners do not have access to internet. The IMAI-BCG report should come up as a wake up call to the community of educators, in 4-6 years time internet will be all pervasive and it will be a part of all action taken by an individual. In this context what is the road map that educators and educational institutions are drawing up to ensure that they can establish their own digital footprint and also use it to engage their learners. Educational institutions will have to tell themselves that internet has to become an integral part of their overall strategy, imagine a bank today without internet banking. How the internet can enhance the service delivery, enhance customer satisfaction and reduce costs, these are questions that commercial organizations are asking themselves. Can educational institutions also ask these questions to themselves, if they can then I am sure they have the capability to find the answers. The problem with the community is never that of ability but that of intent. Image: mkhmarketing
